In 2012 a large, new parking structure was needed to keep pace with the increasing number of office tenants moving to downtown Detroit. Rather than simply build a parking garage, Dan Mullen and his team asked the question, "how do we create a unique experience, even when just parking your car?" The answer was to partner with a Detroit-based art gallery to curate work from dozens of internationally-renowned street artists in order to turn the garage into a museum open to the public. The Z has now become one of downtown Detroit's key landmarks, drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year.
