Dan Mullen

FOUNDER & CEO

Dan Mullen founded Future & Main in 2019 to leverage his passion for and success in capitalizing upon emerging cultural trajectories with novel concepts in real estate development, retail and restaurant programming, and technology.

Mullen formerly served as President of Bedrock, the transformational development company founded by Dan Gilbert, founder of Quicken Loans and owner of the Cleveland Cavs. As President, Mullen helped the company’s portfolio grow from a single acquisition in 2011 to more than 100 properties in Detroit and Cleveland, totaling more than 16 million square feet under management as of 2017.

In addition to serving as a driving force behind the company’s growth, Mullen was responsible for recruiting and placing over 250 businesses in Detroit ranging from marquee office tenants such as Microsoft, LinkedIn, and WeWork, to high street retailers like Jon Varvatos, LuluLemon, and Nike, to culture-driving local boutiques such as Avalon Breads & Bakery, and Detroit Is The New Black.

At the core of Mullen’s approach to successfully recruiting world-class tenants was his focus on building one-of-a-kind tenant experiences through the creative use of public art, cultural programming, and technology. This approach is perhaps nowhere more evident than in the Shinola Hotel - a true passion project for Mullen which he managed fully from its birth as an idea up until its doors opened to guests in December 2018.

For his work, Mullen has been recognized as one of Detroit’s top business leaders, receiving a “30 in Their Thirties” award from DBusiness Magazine and a “40 Under 40” award from Crain’s Detroit Business.
