In Detroit’s heyday, Woodward Avenue rivaled 5th avenue in New York City and Magnificent Mile in Chicago. But in the period immediately after Detroit declared bankruptcy, Woodward Avenue was a ghost town. As the city began its modern rise, it took an integrated, energetic vision, and a herculean effort to build a retail environment that was worthy of national attention.
